Types of Aid Available to Graduate Students

Several forms of financial support are available for MFA students:

  • Merit scholarships – Awarded by the Dean’s Office
  • Fellowships - Project management positions available for those with skills and experience that match the management needs of the Emergent Media Center's current and upcoming portfolio of projects
  • Teaching opportunities - Graduate teaching assistant positions may be awarded in the undergraduate Division of Communications & Creative Media.)

To be considered for these opportunities, please indicate so on your application, and apply as early as possible.

Financial aid is also available in the form of loans for those who qualify, and are accepted and enrolled in a Champlain College Graduate program. Champlain College participates in the Federal Direct Loan program. This program enables students to borrow federal funds to help meet educational costs.

Eligible students will be awarded an Unsubsidized Direct Loan. The maximum loan eligibility is $20,500 per year. Unsubsidized loans accrue interest upon disbursement. For more information on Unsubsidized Direct Loans go to: http://studentaid.ed.gov/types/loans/subsidized-unsubsidized.

Should you need additional funding to cover your cost of attendance you can apply for a Graduate PLUS Loan at www.studentloans.gov. Your cost of attendance includes cost of tuition, room, board, books, transportation and miscellaneous expenses. This is a Federal loan and is based on credit approval. For information on the Graduate PLUS Loan go to: http://studentaid.ed.gov/types/loans/plus.

Financial Aid Application Process

Applying for financial aid is a separate process from applying for admission. Although graduate students will not be awarded financial aid until after they have been formally accepted and enrolled, we encourage students to apply for financial aid as soon as possible. Most students apply for financial aid in tandem with their application for admission. Please do not wait to be accepted to apply for financial aid.

Students enrolled only in a Certificate program are not eligible for Federal Direct Loans.

To be considered for the Federal Loan programs noted above, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov. Please be sure to enter Champlain College’s school code number (003684) on the FAFSA. Upon completion, you will receive a confirmation email and a link to your Student Aid Report (SAR) from the federal processor. Please review your SAR carefully and follow all next steps indicated.
