College Students Challenged to Create Garden Campaign

BURLINGTON, VT.- Champlain College, the AIGA Vermont Chapter, Adobe and Jager Di Paola Kemp Design are working together again this year to challenge graphic design students attending Vermont colleges students to design an awareness program for a non-profit community project.
According to Suzanne Glover, assistant professor at Champlain College's Division of Communications and Design, the 2011 Student Design Challenge is to create a marketing campaign designed to increase the number of local, school-based community gardens across the state.
The winning designs will be aimed at encouraging healthy eating and help engage children to participate at a young age in the localvore movement - particularly during the summer months, when gardens are most active yet school is not in session.
Submissions are due Monday, Feb. 21. Entry is free for AIGA members, $10 for non-members, payment is due with submissions. Send entries to Suzanne Glover, CCM, Champlain College, 163 S. Willard St. Burlington, VT 05401.
Following the judging, a juried exhibition of the students' top designs will be on display at JDK Design on 47 Maple St. An opening reception is planned for Feb. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. The prizes include an Adobe Creative Suite software package; Small Dog Electronics $250 gift certificate; and four Borders Book Store $25 gift certificates.
This is the second year of The Student Design Challenge. Participants are expected to express their talent by designing an awareness campaign including, name, logo and any other components they choose. For more information, contact Glover at sglover@champlain.edu
