Presenting before a packed house at Champlain College's Alumni Auditorium on March 24th, the founders of Flashbags, Laura Cheney and Ali Marchildon, shared their story of how they were able to turn one old sewing machine and one big idea into a thriving business. As part of the presentation, the duo discussed their motivation behind starting their own business, the challenges and obstacles, and where their business is today. They then wrapped up their presentation by taking questions from audience members and awarding some of their stylish tote bags as door prizes.   The two former school teachers described taking those first steps toward starting their business, and the satisfaction they felt as the business gained traction in the marketplace.

            "Listening to Laura and Ali speak about their experience as entrepreneurs was so interesting," gushed Danielle Thorburn ('12). "As an aspiring business owner, I was really impressed with how these two individuals were able to take their passion and turn it into a business."

            The presentation by the Flashbag founders served as the capstone to this year's Speaking from Experience entrepreneurship lecture series sponsored by Champlain College's BYOBiz Program.  This year's series featured a number of prominent entrepreneurs including Alan Newman, founder of Magic Hat Brewing Co, and Michael Lane, co-founder of Dealer.com.
