Internship Fair Opens Doors to Opportunities
10/29/10
The annual Champlain College Fall 2010 Internship Fair will be held Monday, Nov. 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Hauke Conference Room and Fireside Lounge of the IDX Student Life Center
Students are encouraged to dress in professional attire (business casual is acceptable) ... no jeans/t-shirts/sweats/flip-flops/caps. Career Services advisers suggest that students also:
- Practice your introductory "pitch" which should include your name, major, year, and the time period for which you are seeking an internship
- Have a firm handshake, smile, and speak up
- Bring copies of your resume (if you have one) along with a notepad or folder, a pen, and your spring semester schedule
Not looking for a spring internship? The Fair is still a great forum for networking to make connections with employers for the future.
To get you started.....
Here are 10 questions you may want to ask the recruiter:
1. What type of projects do interns typically work on in your organization?
2. Do interns usually work with a number of different people in the organization or with one main person?
3. What kinds of skills and experience do you look for in the interns you hire?
4. Which courses or experiences do you suggest to be a successful candidate for your internships?
5. Does your company ever hire interns upon completion of an internship?
6. Do employees typically stay with your company for a while?
7. What are the characteristics of your most successful employees?
8. Are graduate degrees important to advancing within your organization? Which ones?
9. Are there opportunities for ongoing training through your organization?
10. Can you describe the hiring process?
