ITS Division Technology Seminars Planned

Using technology in the classroom has become an essential part of almost every program at colleges anduUniversities across the globe. What are the tools generating success? Champlain College's ITS Division will show you in a series of seminars that span the major topics, tools and technologies.
Seminars will be from once or twice per month. Seminars will be open to: Faculty, Staff, Students, and outside participants (invitees will depend on topic presented).
Here are some of the topics that are being considered:

Content Managements tools and free web templates abound. In addition, free web authoring tools are available that are relatively easy to use. With little effort, you can create your own web site and blog for little or no cost. Web hosting services are numerous, and costs near peanuts. We will show you how to get started in creating a personal web site to promote your academic or personal endeavors.
3D Virtual Technologies in the Classroom - they are coming! (John Rogate - Friday, January 29, 2010 - 12:30 - 1:30 - Ireland 114) - The technology is now used by every College, University, and Community College in the world. Large corporations are pouring millions into the technology. Come see what has changed. Two successful projects will be demonstrated; one of which is a 160-student business school marketing project conducted by a large university in the Netherlands.
Classroom/Presentation Capture (David Wolfe- Friday, February 19, 2010 - 12:30 - 1:30 - Ireland 114) - Podcasts, vBlogs and Streaming. Ever wanted to capture a lecture, classroom activity or presentation for use at a later date? We'll look at some of the ways you can easily record audio, video, presentations and computer demonstrations. We'll look at some of the equipment available from Media Services to record, software applications to edit and produce and web sites to distribute your content. No expertise needed, these solutions are low (or no) cost and are designed to be easy to use.
Cloud Computing and Open Source Tools (Gary Savard- Friday, February 26, 2010 - 12:30 - 1:30 - Ireland 114) - What is cloud computing? What is Open Source? What are some of the free tools available to educators to enhance learning? Some of the tools will be highlighted and demonstrated. They are free, easy to use, and offer many possibilities for the classroom. Come see what they are, and how you can get started!
