The cow is being painted by students in the basement of Aiken Hall.
Arts Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Graphic Design & Digital Media Toni-Lee Sangastiano and students from AIGA, the professional association for design student group are painting black letters in Avant Garde and Garamond fonts on a life size cow statue in Aiken Hall this week.
On May 10, people will be able to take a brand new tour of the city by searching for each cow. The campaign, sponsored by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, sets out to encourage tourism and highlight local artists, who will decorate the "blank canvases."
Champlain College senior Hau (Howie) Le '10, a multimedia and graphic design major, touched up the sleek black letters on the white cow, noting. "Members of the AIGA got together and decided to make a typographical cow," he said, "we call it, Moo-vable Type."
Cows Come Home is a unique way to promote local artists and generate revenue for businesses in Burlington according to the organizers. The cows will be displayed outside all summer until they are auctioned off in October. The proceeds from the auction will be given to the Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger, a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to hunger prevention in Vermont through education and advocacy.
The exact location of the Champlain College cow has not been determined.
