Champlain Librarian, Designer Earn Recognition

Champlain College Librarian Honored


Andrew Burkhardt
of Burlington has received the Lyrasis 2010 NextGen Librarian Award. He is Champlain College's Emerging Technologies Librarian at the Miller Information Commons. This national award honors three librarians new to the library profession who demonstrate an innovative and fresh approach to the profession and are leaders in our rapidly changing world. In selecting Burkhardt, the award committee commended his ability to stay current to new technologies while valuing the importance of in-person connections. The award will be presented at the American Library Association 2010 Annual Conference in Washington, DC.
LYRASIS, the award's sponsor, is the nation's largest regional library consortium, fostering collaboration and cooperation among member libraries and facilitating their success through networking, programming, innovative solutions, and group purchasing for products and services.

 

Champlain College Senior Art Designer Honored

athleen McGuffin of Burlington has received the Art's Alive 2010 Moulton-Steele Emerging Artist Award., presented at the Gala Reception and Awards Ceremony held at Union Station. Her oil painting, entitled "Rivers of Living Water" received "Third Place Overall in the 2010 Art's Alive Juried Exhibit." It was the first time in the Festival's 24-year history that someone captured one of the top three awards and the Moulton-Steel Emerging Artist Award.
McGuffin works in the College's Marketing Department as a senior art designer. She received a certificate in Graphic Design from Champlain College in 2006. McGuffin's painting will be featured on all the Arts Alive 2010 event's promotional materials, including the website.
The Moulton-Steel Award came with a $500 financial gift and the organization has purchased "Rivers of Living Water" to be hung in a special location at the Lake & College Building and identified with a bronze plaque noting the award.
