Today's younger investors are likely to bear much more personal responsibility for their retirement savings than their parents or grandparents did. They may not be able to rely on corporate pensions or social entitlement programs, and, they are less likely to stick with a single company or career through their lifetimes. What's more, the recession has made them more risk-averse. Their reluctance to enter investment markets embodies a kind of conservatism that hasn't been seen since the Great Depression.
We turn our focus on the next generation in the latest of our help2retire Webcasts. It's Your Future: What Young Americans Need to Know About Retirement, airs live on Wednesday, March 9 at 9 p.m. (ET), and will be available for on-demand viewing following the broadcast. UPDATE 3/10: The webcast is available online now and available for viewing.
Former ABC news anchor Charles Gibson leads the conversation with a panel of highly respected financial educators and industry experts, including:
• Andrew Sieg, Head of Retirement Services, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, who will focus on retirement planning;
• Roland Fryer, The Robert M. Beren Professor of Economics, Harvard University, named "One of the Top Young Economists in the World" by Economist magazine;
• Anya Kamenetz, author of Generation Debt and DIY U, staff writer at Fast Company, and Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist for her Village Voice column, "Generation Debt"; and
• John Pelletier, director of the new Center for Financial Literacy at Champlain College in Vermont, and an expert in younger Americans' financial matters.
This program is specifically designed to provide thought-provoking answers to the many questions the next generation of investors have about their financial futures. I hope you tune in and invite your own family to watch along with you. It is sure to spur a productive conversation with your Financial Advisor.
Sincerely,
Sallie Krawcheck
President, Global Wealth & Investment Management, Merrill Lynch
