Listen to the National Public Radio  ONLY A GAME INTERVIEW with Alex Brandstetter and Alex Pial.

March 25th marks the second annual "Slam For Sudan"-a slam dunk competition featuring Vermont's top high school basketball boys and girls basketball players.  The event raises money for Global Reach Partnerships Inc, a non-profit organization that supports Sudanese refugees living in Vermont.

Last year the "Slam For Sudan," raised over $14,000 in donations for Global Reach Partnerships Inc. The organization empowers refugees with the help of local mentors, who aspire to shape them into leaders in the socio-economic development of their community in Vermont and in Southern Sudan.

This year funds raised will go to expanding the programs offered to the Sudanese population within Burlington.

Champlain senior Alex Brandstetter, an international business major, created the event with the help from many Champlain College students, who used their skills and education to enrich the lives of others. Two Champlain College professors Tom Myers and Scott Baker, the founders of Global Reach Partnerships, said they have received an enormous amount of support from students and faculty at Champlain and from people in the community related to the program.

This year, Brandstetter continues to market the event with the help of a new team of students. Champlain student Michaela Quinlan, the managing director for the "Slam For Sudan," leads a team of 12 students who are working to find sponsors and get the word out to the community. The goal, Quinlan said, is to be even more successful than last year.

The Slam for Sudan will be Thursday, March 25th at Memorial Auditorium in Burlington (located on the corner of Main and South Union streets). Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event starts at 7 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at the door: student with ID): $ 5, Adults: $7, Court-side (sold online, only-limited availability): $20. To purchase tickets online please visit www.slamforsudan.org.
