Resident biographer and historian Willard Sterne Randall, the visiting professor of the humanities at Champlain, was interviewed about the history of baby booms by the Chicago Tribune, and he reviewed a history book for Newsday. Both articles were published in November. Randall’s own book on Alexander Hamilton is scheduled to be published in the fall.

Hotel-Restaurant Management program director Peter Straube shared his thoughts on the effects of September 11 on Vermont tourism with reporters. His positive outlook appeared in travel sections of several newspapers, including the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Santa Fe New Mexican, Newsday, and the Hackensack Record and Passaic Herald in New Jersey.

College Bound Magazine’s October issue quoted Business student Kate Leene of Waterbury, Vt., about how to take “knock-out notes” in college. Leene polished her note taking skills while being a mentor for a Freshman Focus class at Champlain.

The Kaplan/Newsweek College Catalog 2002 named Champlain to a select list of “Schools offering the best career services.” Hundreds of guidance counselors were contacted by telephone as part of the national survey. As a result of their answers, Champlain was one of 26 colleges listed in the category for top career services.

In addition, the US News & World Report “America’s Best Colleges 2002” college guide highlighted Champlain as having one of the top five graduation rates amongst Northern Comprehensive Colleges. The College was also named a Tier II Northern Comprehensive College, based on a ranking system of Tier I (the highest) to Tier IV.
