Historian and professor Willard Sterne Randall was a guest on VPR’s “Vermont Edition” on December 11, 2007, speaking about faith, the founding fathers and the presidency.

Cell phones: “a valuable police tool in criminal investigations”

A front-page story on December 8, 2007, focused on cell phone forensics and quoted Computer & Digital Forensics faculty member Gary Kessler.

Advice on educational toys

Education faculty member Laurel Bongiorno was tapped by reporters in early-December to provide tips on educational toys during the holiday gift-giving season.

Vermont’s “top cop”

Vermont news outlets reported in December that that Burlington Police Chief Tom Tremblay, a Champlain College alumnus, will become Vermont’s next commissioner of public safety.

The dollar vs. the “Loonie”

A December 5, 2007, interview on VPR’s morning news featured international business faculty member Scott Baker, who discussed the value of the Canadian dollar versus the American dollar and the implications for Vermont’s economy.

Presidential contenders reach out online
XM Satellite Radio, WNYC Radio (N.Y.) and Public Radio International

In November 2007, e-Business faculty member Elaine Young was interviewed on the POTUS ’08 election channel on XM Satellite Radio in regards to presidential candidates’ use of social media. She was also heard across the country on a show called “Your Billion Dollar President”—a news special produced by WNYC, Public Radio International, WGBH Boston, BBC and New York Times Radio. Young blogs about how the presidential candidates leverage social media for their campaigns.

New Digital Filmmaking degree

Vermont’s largest daily paper covered a digital editing class and interviewed faculty members Nancy Kerr and Karen Klove as part of a November 20 feature on Champlain’s new Digital Filmmaking program.

Students take action

A November 18 article featured Champlain students Victoria Lee and Samantha St. Pierre, who created a petition in support of Darfur, while a November 13 article featured Champlain students who created a Tent City to raise funds for Burlington’s homeless shelter. Students Kirsten Wunn and Doug Tetreault were quoted.

Mentor honored by the United Way

A large photo on November 10 celebrated student Gary Tilden’s United Way Hometown Hero Award nomination for being a dedicated mentor in the DREAM program while studying at Champlain.

“New ways of seeing the world”

An October 29, 2007, feature article in this national publication reported on Champlain’s Global Modules program, which was devised by history professor Gary Scudder as a way to bring Champlain students together with students from all corners of the globe in engaging online discussions about topics of our day.

Refugees in Vermont, and on campus

Champlain student David Tabaruka, a refugee from Rwanda, was interviewed on VPR’s “Vermont Edition” in October 2007 as part of a feature about refugees resettling in Vermont. He described some of his own experiences and his current role as an interpreter for new refugees.

A campus north of the border

Game development student Halley Greaves and President David Finney were interviewed as part of an October 23 feature story about Champlain’s new Montréal campus.

Making serious games for the business world

These game industry publications reported on four Champlain students who were tapped to create two serious games at a major learning conference in Orlando in October 2007.

“On the trail of digital secrets”

On October 14, the Times quoted a former Champlain computer forensics student about growing career opportunities in an article in the Job Market section.

Finding her “perfect” college
Connecticut Post (Conn.)

In the Teen Voices section of this newspaper, a high school student wrote about finding her perfect college.

“Going global: Universities spread their wings”
Montréal Gazette (Que.)

This daily newspaper reported that Champlain is an example of a college that is embracing internationalization because the College instituted a campus in the city of Montréal.

“Most innovative curriculums”

The latest edition of this respected college guide highlights Champlain College among nine colleges to have “the most innovative curriculums.”

U.S.News America's Best Colleges 2008

This national college guide has again ranked Champlain College in the top tier of the Best Baccalaureate Colleges in the North.

“Inn has all the charms of a country getaway”

The October 2007 issue of this magazine included a feature on hospitality program alumna Carrie Davis, her parents and their family business: the elegant Willard Street Inn near campus.

A campus à la Montréal
Radio Canada, Vermont Public Radio, Montréal Gazette (Que.), La Presse (Que.) and Burlington Free Press

The news of Champlain's new campus and ribbon-cutting event in Montréal spread through Canada and the US in late-September 2007. Officials from Vermont and Québec were in attendance.

“Boot camps” for online marketing

Champlain’s Workforce Development Center was featured for forming a partnership with alumni-owned EpikOne to deliver mini-courses and “boot camps” on online marketing topics.

“Police agency is getting help from the local college”

The September 2007 issue of this national trade magazine includes a feature story about the unique working partnership between Champlain’s Center for Digital Investigation and Vermont law enforcement, which brings two Champlain professors to work part-time on cases for the police.

Accounting excellence

The August 2007 edition includes a feature on the College’s new Accounting Excellence Scholarship Fund and its well-established Accounting program.

Two BYOBiz program students and ice cream entrepreneurs were featured in August 2007 in these Massachusetts-based papers.

Photos of Vermont teachers participating in Champlain’s annual Summer Institute for Educators were seen in area papers. The institute focused on best practices for integrating technology into the classroom.

Champlain and the BYOBiz Program are mentioned on Inc. magazine’s Web site in feature articles about young entrepreneurs and 30 top entrepreneurs under 30.

Center of academic excellence

Vermont papers reported that the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security designated Champlain College as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.

“Refugees in the spotlight”

A late-June 2007 article and an editorial about Vermont refugees highlighted Rwandan refugee Jean Luc Dushime, who is enrolled at Champlain with the help of the College’s New American Student Scholarship.

April 14, 2007, these news outlets reported on a mock trial in which the Paralegal Studies, Computer & Digital Forensics and Criminal Justice programs participated, as well as a prominent judge and Vermont attorneys.

“Hometown Heroes”

Champlain Accounting students were among those honored as “Hometown Heroes” on this TV station on April 19. They make up half of a large group of VITA volunteers who help people file their tax forms.
