Absent Professor Program
Purpose:
- To create additional opportunities for outreach to the Champlain College community.
- APP will further assist to educate, promote and create awareness of the importance of Diversity and Inclusion and the overall function and potential of the ODI office.
Description:
- The Absent Professor Program takes place in lieu of a professor's absence when they are not available to teach their class. If there are no plans for a substitute, then instead of cancelling, the professor would contact the Office of Diversity and Inclusion to schedule a Diversity presentation.
- If a professor is aware of their absence in advance, they can schedule a Diversity Presentation and work it into their syllabus. This can be a great opportunity for the ODI office to reach out to faculty and students whom otherwise would over look Diversity education and programming opportunities for a variety of reasons. The presentation would be an opportunity to encourage and engage more students on Social Justice and Diversity initiatives and to inform them of the services and events on campus.
Benefits:
- Provides an opportunity for faculty to support Champlain College's efforts in implementing the campus' overall Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan.
- To expose a broader audience of students to Social Justice and Diversity and Inclusion education; a significant step in providing a higher percentage of culturally intelligent graduates.
- Potentially increase attendance at ODI's programming events.
- Enhances a student's global perspective in education in general and can ignite other diversity programming opportunities and engagement campus wide.
