Program Objectives

Campus Diversity Goals

  1. Employing a developmental, systemic approach to ensure that we become an interculturally competent campus that is inclusive and welcoming of ALL students, staff and faculty
  2. Recruiting and retaining a diverse campus community
  3. Graduating ALL students with the skills they need to thrive in a global, multicultural and interdependent world
  4. Creating a diverse connected alumni, which diversifies (and therefore increases) our possible gift opportunities
  5. Becoming a recognized institution/regional leader in campus intercultural development
  6. An outcome of these efforts will be an increase in the number of underrepresented students for whom Champlain College is the institution of choice

Successfully achieving these goals involves:

  • A senior leadership led and supported vision and plan- (Congratulations, Champlainers, We have this!! please view Champlain's strategic plan here)
  • Clear ownership and accountability for initiatives (We are getting there!)
  • Measurable outcomes and consistent evaluation
  • Campus wide buy in and understanding of foundational terms, concepts, challenges and opportunities - (We are on the way and that is what intercultural U is all about)
  • Skill enhancement and acquisition for faculty, staff and students (Again, that is what intercultural U is all about)

Intercultural Certification Program Objectives

As part of a larger systemic effort to develop intercultural competence, the diversity/intercultural certification program seeks to:

  2. To create a critical mass of people with a foundational theory and research supported knowledge of interculturalism
  3. To begin/expand a grassroots discussion about interculturalism on campus that allows everyone to come to the table in an open and authentic manner
  4. To continue building capacity for strategic visioning and planning for campus intercultural development
  5. To ensure that intercultural efforts are truly campus wide by having champions and advocates within various campus stakeholder groups and at all campus levels
