Health & Safety

Student safety is a top priority at Champlain College. The Office of International Education makes a concerted effort to ensure student safety, while avoiding unnecessary restrictions on student exposure to the culture in which they are studying and living. At Champlain, an experienced Crisis Management Team is ready to deal with emergencies, and has action plans in place for crisis situations.

In the event of an emergency, please contact campus Safety at (802) 865-6465. For after hours emergencies, call Safety & Security at (802) 343-4242.

During the semester or year abroad, on-site Resident Directors are in regular communication with the students and the Burlington staff. Students receive detailed health and safety information during the on-site orientation, pre-departure orientation in Burlington, and in information packets sent to students by mail.

Insurance

All students who study abroad on Champlain programs are covered under a comprehensive study abroad health insurance policy through CISI Cultural Insurance Insurance Services International. You can view the policy here. CISI insurance only provides coverage while outside the United States. Furthermore, the student is only covered during the designated dates of the Champlain Abroad program. To extend the coverage dates for travel before or after the study abroad program, please contact the study abroad coordinator. It is the student's responsibility to make sure this insurance is adequate for his/her needs. Certain pre-existing conditions and exclusions may apply.

Immigration

Current immigration rules for Ireland and Canada do NOT require students to obtain a visa prior to traveling abroad. The Office of International Education supplies students with important immigration paperwork during the pre-departure process. Students studying at the Champlain Abroad campuses in Montréal and Dublin MUST have this paperwork in hand when passing through immigration. For more detailed information, please contact the Assistant Director of Study Abroad in the Office of International Education at Champlain College. Immigration laws are constantly changing, and it is always a good idea to confirm the most up to date information.
