8:00-11:30 A.M. - RESIDENTIAL STUDENT MOVE IN AND CHECK IN

Meet at Your Residence Hall

All residence halls open at 8:00 a.m., at which time you're free to take your belongings to your room, meet your Residential Life Staff and get acquainted with your new neighbors.  At your residence hall you can also check in with the Orientation staff and pick up your Orientation packet.  In this packet you will find the Orientation schedule for the weekend as well as other valuable information to ensure your success at Champlain. 

8:00-11:30 A.M. - NUTS AND BOLTS TO BEGINNING YOUR COLLEGE CAREER

Once you have settled into your residence hall and received your Orientation Packet there are still many loose ends to be tied up and there are resources all around campus ready to assist you in completing these tasks.  

Photo ID

IDX, Student Life Center (SLC), Fireside Lounge (FSL)

Your ID will be waiting for you in the, Fireside Lounge for you to pick up at anytime this morning.   If you didn't have a chance to send us your ID photo you can still have your picture taken and pick up your ID this evening back in the FSL. 

 

Put Money on Your Cash Card

Forms will be available in the FSL to assist you in adding money to your ID card. 

 

Emergency Alert System

All students are required to register for the campus emergency alert system so make sure to stop by to meet the Campus Public Safety Staff and register. The emergency alert system notifies students of any emergency or crisis situation occurring on or near campus.

 

Sugarbush Ski Pass

Ski Pass Sign-up will also be available so you can get your season pass.  Passes are available for $30 for Mount Ellen and $100 for the all Sugarbush trails.  Not sure how you are going to get to the mountain?  Weekly buses will take you to the mountain in peak season and other trips will be arranged over the course of the semester.   Then you'll be ready to take advantage of their amazing ski and ride terrain as soon as the snowflakes begin to fly! Bring your laptop to get your account set up and receive assistance connecting to the network.

 

Purchase Books

College Bookstore

Bring your class schedule to the bookstore to purchase your books.  The Bookstore Staff will use your class schedule to grab all of your required books for your first semester.   If you already pre-ordered your books those are waiting for you to the left of the Bookstore at the Joyce Hall entrance.  All you will need to do is bring your ID and your order number and the staff will happily get your preordered books. 

 

Set Up a Bank Account

Several of our local banks are available on campus this morning for you to select the best match for you and sign up. 

 

Career Services - Work-Study & Part-Time Jobs

Talk with a member of Career Services to learn how to search and apply for Work-Study and Part-Time job opportunities, find out the name of your Career Advisor and how to contact them, and learn about the many other career resources available to you.

Questions about your Work Study?  Financial Aid and Human Resources staff will be here to discuss general questions about your award and the OnBoarding process.  Bring your ID paperwork to finalize your I-9 Form!

Families stop by to sign up for Parent eNewsletter, to receive information on Parent Advisory Council.  The Parent Advisory Council will keep you informed about topics current topics on and off campus.  We will also keep you connected to all dimensions of the College experience. 

 

10:30-11:30 A.M. - CHECK IN FOR COMMUTER STUDENTS

Stop by Hauke Courtyard to receive your Orientation packet. This is also a good time to pick up your photo ID, drop off outstanding health forms, pick up books, learn about work-study opportunities, and sign up for any needed bank accounts. Bring your laptop to get your internet account set up and learn how to access the Champlain network. Ski Pass sign-up will also be available.

 

11:00-1:00 P.M. - LUNCH FOR STUDENTS, FAMILIES AND FRIENDS

IDX, SLC Dining Hall, or Hauke Courtyard

All students, families and friends are invited to enjoy a special BBQ feast. You can also use this time to tie up loose ends, say your good-byes and celebrate the start of your college career.

 

1:00-1:30 P.M. - PRESIDENT'S WELCOME

Our adventure together begins with a special welcome address from College President David Finney. We'll also hear from Ian Mortimer, our Director of Admissions, and a Student Government Association Representative.

 

1:30-1:45 P.M. - STUDENT'S SEND-OFF

Students will now begin to transition into their Orientation groups, where you will learn what the rest of the weekend has in store for you. Say goodbye to families and hello to your new classmates.

 

1:45-3:00 P.M. - STUDENT ORIENTATION GROUP MEETING

Meet your Orientation Leaders, your fellow students in the Class of 2015, review the weekend schedule, and begin exploring your new community. Remember to wear your nametag!

 

3:00-4:00 P.M. - CONVOCATION

Perry Lawn

The St. Andrew's Pipe Band of Vermont will lead a formal processional as President David Finney, Provost Robin Abramson, College vice presidents and Champlain faculty in full academic regalia welcome new students to campus in the ceremony that officially begins the academic year. This College tradition also includes a keynote speaker and the presentation of the Champlain College 2011 Distinguished Citizen Award.

 

4:00-5:30 P.M. - RESIDENCE HALL COMMUNITY MEETING

Your Residence Hall

Meet the members of your residence hall, including your Resident Assistant, and Assistant Director at your new home's first social gathering.

Quarry Hill and Spinner Place Residents: your meeting will be held in the Hauke Conference Room on the main campus.

 

5:30-7:00 P.M. - STUDENT DINNER

7:00-8:30 P.M. - BEER, BOOZE AND BOOKS

Argosy Gymnasium

This interactive presentation will dispel any rumors you may hear about the relationship between beer, booze and books.  Utilizing video clips, television commercials, student interviews, and cellular phone generated audience polling Jim Matthews captivates his audience while highlighting the critical concerns facing college students including alcohol poisoning, hangovers, blackouts, drinking and driving, risky sexual activity, sexual assault, and much more.

9:00-9:15 P.M. - THE CLASS OF 2015 HEADS OUT TO HAVE SOME FUN!

Bader Parking Lot

Buses will be available in the Bader parking lot to take you to the waterfront for a cruise around the lake.

Buses will meet you directly after the events to drive you back to campus, Quarry Hill or Spinner Place.

Note: You must have a ticket to attend this event. Tickets can be picked up at the 7:00 P.M. "Beer, Booze and Books” event.

12:15-2:30 P.M. - LUNCH AND PEER ADVISOR MEETINGS

Orientation Group Meeting Space

Enjoy lunch with your Peer Advisor, Orientation Leader and Life Experience & Action Dimension (LEAD) group in the Orientation Leader group meeting space that you met in yesterday. Hear about LEAD as you prepare for this afternoon's LEAD presentation. This session will introduce you to LEAD and explain first year expectations.

 

2:45-3:30 P.M. - INTRODUCTION TO LEAD: LIFE EXPERIENCE & ACTION DIMENSION

Perry Hall Lawn

LEAD is the third component of Champlain's Education in Three Dimensions. Spanning all four years of your College studies, it focuses on learning not typically covered in the classroom and gives students the tools needed for personal growth in career management, financial sophistication, community involvement and individual values. In this session you will meet the LEAD staff and campus partners while learning more about LEAD in years 2-4.

 

3:30-4:00 P.M. - MBTI AND FINANCIAL SOPHISTICATION SESSION

Foster 100 and Foster 104

Students who have still not completed their MBTI and/or Financial assessment online will have an opportunity to do so in this session.  Your Peer Advisor (PA) will let you know where to go during this time.  If you have already completed these online assessments you now have this time to take a break before dinner.

5:00-6:30 P.M. - CHAMPLAIN ABROAD DINNER

Grab your dinner and head out to the Student Life Center terrace where you'll get the opportunity to consider your options and plan for a semester abroad during your junior year. Jim Cross and Noah Goldblatt, from the Study Abroad office together with returning Champlain Abroad students will introduce you to our program and show you how to begin planning for it. All those interested in attending should email ngoldblatt@champlain.edu with your name, major and CC ID number.

 

5:30-6:30 P.M.- TRANSFER STUDENT DINNER

Commuting students are invited to a special dinner with the Amber Rich, the Assistant Director of Admission and some Orientation Leaders with similar experiences to you to discuss the benefits and the challenges of transferring.

A Night of Fun in the Student Life Center

End your day with a pool tournament, ping pong, a game or two of Wii, an ice cream social and much more as everyone gathers in the Student Life Center for a night out!

The Grind Coffee House

Join your fellow students in the Dining Hall for the opening night of The Grind. This open-mic coffee house encourages you to let loose and be creative. Sing, play music, read poetry, slam, do some stand-up, or simply speak your mind. The Grind is a safe space to get together with friends, meet people and have a good time, no matter what your tastes or views. There will be plenty of free food, and if you like what you see, you can participate in the Grind every Wednesday night in the SLC Fireside Lounge.

Depending on what time you are scheduled to participate In the ePort training introduction we would like to offer you a bite to eat beforehand. Stop by and grab something to eat before heading to the introduction.

 

9:00-11:00 A.M. - CAMPUS TOURS

Not sure where a class is located? Can't find the Student Life Office? Want to check out the photography lab? Bring your class schedule at any time from 9:00-11:00 a.m. and an Orientation Leader will show you where to go, what to see, and where to find the hidden secrets of the Champlain campus. This should not take more that 30 minutes so you could easily squeeze this in around your ePort introduction.

 

9:00 A.M. - INTRODUCTION TO YOUR ELECTRONIC PORTFOLIO

In this 45-minute session you will learn how to build an electronic portfolio. You will also submit your first required assignment to your Core instructors! Throughout your time at Champlain you will be creating electronic portfolios to collect your best work and show off your achievements, and at the end of your four years here you will have a great way to strut your stuff for potential employers.

1:00-2:15 P.M. - CAMPUS PUBLIC SAFETY PROGRAM

Argosy Gymnasium

All residential students are required to attend this important program and learn the do's and don'ts of fire safety and campus theft prevention. We'll also explore campus alcohol, illegal substance, and noise violation policies, offer advice about what to do with your car now that you're all moved in, answer your campus safety questions, and provide valuable personal safety tips.

 

2:15-2:30 P.M. - SUSTAIN CHAMPLAIN

Argosy Gymnasium

Intro to Sustain Champlain: Come hear about some of the efforts Champlain is making to become a more environmentally sustainable institution and campus. Everyone will receive a free stainless steel water bottle so you can do your part to reduce waste and stay hydrated in style.

 

2:30-3:00 P.M. - THE CLASS OF 2015 MEETS

Here's your first chance to meet all of your fellow classmates! Join us for a high energy, fun-filled event featuring gifts, great prize giveaways, and the taking of our official class picture!

3:30-4:30 P.M. - CHALLENGE EXAM FOR MATHEMATICS

Joyce 201, 202, 203, 210, 211, 212

All Champlain's programs of study require at least one math course. But if you take our Challenge Exam in Algebra or Algebra & Trigonometry during Orientation Weekend and score 70% or better, you'll get a waiver (no credit given) for this requirement. Waiver students are encouraged to schedule a higher level math course but are free to choose any qualifying elective, a choice that should be made in consultation with their advisor. 2:30-4:30 P.M. - WORK-STUDY JOB FAIR

Work-Study eligible students are invited to stop by the Hauke Conference Room to learn about on-campus and off-campus positions offered by various departments at the College and area non-profits. Come learn about these departments and organizations, speak with supervisors and apply for open positions. Staff from the Financial Aid Office, Enrollment Service Center in Perry Hall, Career Services and Human Resources will be on hand to answer questions.

 

5:00-6:30 P.M. - COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS AND BIKE MONTREAL UNITE!
