Talented professionals are often promoted into management positions on the basis of their expertise and performance in functional or technical roles. When they confront the demands of their new roles, however, they may find functional competence alone does not prepare them for the challenges of motivating people, delegating and leading teams, decision-making, resolving conflict, managing diversity and improving performance.

The Management Excellence Seminar Series delivers a set of skills that provide the support all managers need to be successful. The format is interactive and spread over a five-week period so participants can integrate sessions into their schedules without having to be away from the workplace for an extended period of time. The integration of management concepts with real workplace scenarios ensures an immediate impact.

Schedule

Day One — Discovering Your Inner Manager: Gain an understanding of your own management style and how to leverage it to be a more effective manager.

Day Two — Developing Your Team: Incorporate coaching and mentoring strategies to support your team members and improve results.

Day Three — Managing People: Learn conflict management strategies, how to build trust within your team and create and sustain a culture that is welcoming of individual differences.

Day Four — Your Management Toolkit: Acquire essential skills to make effective decisions, lead productive meetings, and facilitate crucial conversations within your organization.

Day Five — Managing Workplace Performance: Develop, set and communicate clear objectives and expectations for optimal performance; Management - A Legal Perspective: Explore workplace best practices from the perspective of an employment law attorney; Wrap-Up: Share insights and practices and learn from others in this final wrap-up session.

(Continental breakfast at 8:00 a.m. Sessions begin at 8:30 a.m. and include a working lunch. Sessions conclude at 4:30 p.m.)

Cost

The cost of the full five-day program is $2,495 ($2,295 before August 26, 2011).

The cost includes the administration of professional assessment tools, a reflection journal, continental breakfast, morning and afternoon beverage/snack breaks as well as networking lunches with fellow attendees, prominent Vermont business leaders and special guests.

Instructor Bios

Cortney Cahill Cortney Cahill, M.S.O.D, based in Burlington, VT, is a passionate and energetic organization development scholar and practitioner. Cortney coaches executives and leadership teams to navigate change, working with organizations in both the public and private sectors.

Sean Collins Sean Collins, Phd., is an experienced organization development practitioner and consults with businesses in the airline, medical, educational, government, and corporate sectors. Sean helps leaders maximize impact and influence by targeting the appropriate part of system, namely how to lead upward, to inspire followership, and to develop capacity from within.
