The Quarry Hill Program
As an undeclared student at Champlain College, you've got plenty of career options. It's important to us that the major you choose be a great fit. We've created an incredible learning experience to help you discover the field and major that will capitalize on your strengths and interests.
The Quarry Hill program will help you to fully explore all of your academic options in the company of peers and advisors. It will help you make a decision about your major by helping you identify your interests and goals.
While enjoying the benefits of apartment suite living, you'll have the opportunity to collaborate with your in-residence faculty and participate in exciting new experiences that will help you find your true calling.
You'll build strong and lasting friendships with your peers as you explore your options together, exchange ideas, and engage in exciting conversations and activities.
The Quarry Hill Residence
Break ground in a new residential space just minutes from campus! Quarry Hill offers state-of-the-art amenities, flexible meal plan options, and many other quality of life benefits.
- Fully Furnished Apartment Suites Including Two Double Bedrooms, 1-2 Bathrooms, a Living Room and a Kitchen
- Staffed with an Assistant Director of Residential Life and Four Resident Assistants Living On-Site
- The Most Flexible Meal-Plan Option: You can select the traditional unlimited meal plan, a 40 meal commuter plan, or you can prepare all your own meals in your kitchen.
- The shuttle bus from Quarry Hill to campus runs morning to night. You can download the shuttle schedule and even view a live shuttle locator here. In addition, the "Guaranteed Ride Home" program is available beyond the shuttle bus hours.
- Parking is available at no charge for a limited number of permits.
Champlain College provides a 24-hour, 365 days per year, public safety service using full-time Campus Public Safety Officers who patrol the campus and work closely with local law enforcement.
Academic Support
Two in-residence faculty members will be a valuable source of information and support, and will:
- Serve as informal academic advisors/mentors to undeclared students.
- Design weekly programs and activities, and offer study tips.
- Host dinners with Deans to help answer questions and provide guidance.
- Talk formally or informally with students during "open door" hours.
Career Support
Your future is what matters most at Champlain. Some of the career support activities available to students include:
- Myers-Briggs self assessment (MBTI) to help determine the best job fit for you.
- Strong Interest Inventory (SSI) that analyzes different career options based on your interests, personality and skills.
- Group sessions to help identify career paths based on academic coursework.
- Help with job searches, summer work, or volunteer opportunities.
- Discussions on the internship process, and how it can be effective in evaluating your options.
Faculty in Residence
Gary Scudder, Assistant Dean for Global Engagement, teaches in the Core Division at Champlain College. Over the last twenty years, he has produced many publications, presented dozens of papers around the world, and won multiple teaching awards. While at Champlain, he has traveled to twenty-six countries, and has initiated and run the Global Modules program at Champlain, giving thousands of students the opportunity to talk to their counterparts around the world about topics such as terrorism, globalization, human rights and ecological stainability.
Mike Kelly, Assistant Professor of the Core Division, teaches rhetoric courses in the core and directs the Writing Center at Champlain College. His academic interests include composition and rhetoric, literature, and history. Outside of school, Mike enjoys playing just about anything, finding cool new records, and hanging out with friends and family. As a native Nebraskan, he's used to the cold. He lives with his wife Jaime, his three sons — Nick, Jake and Sam, — and his golden retriever Gus.
