COTS (Committee on Temporary Shelter)
Since 1982, COTS (Committee on Temporary Shelter) has provided emergency shelter, services and housing for people who are homeless or marginally housed in Vermont. COTS advocates for long-term solutions to end homelessness.
Through the Center for Service students have a couple volunteer opportunities available to them, including being a playroom volunteer, where students visit and play with the children in the shelter. This time can be spent playing games, coloring, or doing anything that sparks the child's interest. Champlain's CSCE has also organized dinners. Groups of 3-5 students meet at the center for service (skiff hall) at 4:30 pm. Dinner is served at COTS around 6:00 pm and students return by 7:15. The objective is to prepare and enjoy a meal with the COTS residents.
