TAX INCENTIVES FOR IRA GIVING
New law extends opportunities
Legislation passed in October allows for the immediate and retroactive extension of the popular Pension Protection Act of 2006 provision permitting taxpayers over 70 ½ to make tax-free distributions from their traditional and Roth IRAs directly to Champlain College in 2008 and 2009. To qualify for IRA rollover treatment, you must direct your IRA manager to transfer funds directly to the College. Donors may choose to make charitable distributions from their IRA in any amount up to $100,000. Making gifts in 2008 and 2009 from IRA funds that would be subject to tax if withdrawn voluntarily or under mandatory withdrawal requirements may be a wise choice for many. Meeting the Coleman Foundation Challenge
Through the BYOBiz (Bring Your Own Business ) Program, Champlain College recruits high school students with a business or business idea and the passion, skills and drive to build it. Through mentorship, institutional support and guidance, BYOBiz helps these students build their businesses as part of Champlain's experientially based education.
The College and the community benefit as well. These young men and women add energy and entrepreneurial spirit on campus. They will become Vermont innovators who will create jobs and grow the economy.
The Coleman Foundation of Chicago shares this vision and has challenged Champlain to raise funds to create a sustainable BYOBiz program. We invite you to learn how you can help Champlain College secure this future through the BYOBiz program and entrepreneurship education by clicking here.
Champlain's Accounting faculty members, Walt Luchini, Champ Soncrant, Eadie Templin, Thane Butt, Mitch Thibault, Nancy Wells and Dave Mona, bring an astounding 200 plus years of combined experience to the College.
