International Student FAQs

 

Q: Where is Champlain College located?

A: Champlain College is located in Burlington, Vermont, on Lake Champlain, about 156 km south of Montreal, QC, Canada.  We are located 347 km north of Boston, MA, USA.  The city of Burlington is home to five colleges and universities and has a population of about 40,000.  

Q: How do I get to Champlain College?

A: Champlain College is located about 10 minutes from Burlington International Airport.  This airport connects with New York City, Philadelphia Washington D.C., Detroit, Orlando and other major cities. Champlain College will provide Airport pick up and drop off for International students.

Q: How many students attend Champlain College?

A: Champlain College is a small, private college that has 2,000 undergraduate students.

Q: Who is considered a foreign or international student?

A: Any student who is not a citizen, permanent resident of the United States, or will require a visa to attend Champlain College is considered a foreign or International student.

Q: How do I apply to Champlain College?

A: Students have two options to apply to Champlain College.  They can use the Common Application and the Champlain College supplement form, or they can use the International Admission Application. (Insert links to both) Students must provide official transcripts translated in English to be considered for Admission. Champlain recommends World Education Services or Education Evaluators International, inc for translation and certification services.

Q: What are the application deadlines?

A: Champlain College offers three application deadlines. The deadline for Regular Decision is February 1.  The deadline for Early Decision is November 15 or January 15.  Early Decision is a binding decision.  For more information on the Early Decision program click here (insert link). We will consider applications after these deadlines on a case by case basis. We encourage you to apply as early as possible to allow ample time for the visa process.

Q: What tests are required for admission? Are the SATs required?

A: Champlain College requires all International applicants to submit either the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the IELTS.  Official scores must be sent to the Champlain College Office of Admission.  See below for the minimum scores Champlain College Admission looks for on the TOEFL and IELTS.  For more information about conditional admission please click here (link in information about CA)

Champlain College does NOT require the SAT for International Students, but International Students who submit the SAT are considered for additional merit scholarships.

Q: Can I study Part-Time at Champlain College?

A: No, International students must maintain full-time enrollment in accordance with U.S. immigration law.  A full time student must be registered for a minimum of 12 credits a semester.

Q: Does Champlain College offer scholarships or financial aid to International Students?

A: Yes, Champlain College does offer merit and need based scholarships to international students.  Scholarships range from $1,000USD to $10,000USD a year.  These scholarships are renewable all four years. International Students that submit the SAT will be considered for additional merit scholarships.

Transfer International students will also qualify for the above scholarships.  Each year a small amount of full cost scholarships are awarded to International Students.

Q: Can international students work on campus?

A:  Yes, International students can work on campus.  This is the only legal means of employment for International students.

Q: If I cannot visit Champlain College, are there opportunities to learn and see more about the school?

Q: Are International students guaranteed housing? Can I stay in the Residential Halls over breaks?

A: Yes, International students are guaranteed housing all four years at Champlain College.  International students are able to stay in their Residential Halls over academic breaks.
