Professional Opportunities
Champlain's focus on professional education not only provides students with outstanding academic programs that prepare you for a lifetime of careers, it also makes available a compelling range of professional opportunities designed to enhance your classroom experiences.
A Professional Faculty
First and foremost, our faculty members bring a tremendous amount of professional experience to what they teach. Whether it is experience directing Hollywood films, working for global video game companies, designing media campaigns and graphic identities for Fortune 500 companies, publishing work in Rolling Stone and National Geographic, airing commentaries on National Public Radio, anchoring network television newscasts, our faculty members keep one foot in the classroom and one foot in the professional world. We also regularly bring professional guests to campus from Montreal, Boston and New York to interact with students faculty and staff.
Internships
Nearly all CCM students do at least one internship, and many do more than one. Not only are there dozens of local companies and organizations with whom we have long-standing internship relations, but we also have strong relationship with regional, national and (increasingly) international employers.
The Emergent Media Center
During the 2010-2011 academic year there were more than 100 different undergraduate students working at the Emergent Media Center, and most of them were in paid positions. EMC projects this past year included development work on a web/mobile phone game to reduce violence against women in developing countries, a breathing exercise game for kids with cystic fibrosis that uses a breathing controller for its primary user interface, a virtual worlds project for IBM, an early responder simulator for the Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (CIMIT) in Boston, a Google 3D mapping project for the City of Burlington, and much more. More game studio than college computer lab, the EMC stands as one of the most innovative and far-reaching technology projects in the Northeastern U.S.
The BYOBiz Program
The Bring Your Own Business Program (BYOBiz) provides unparalleled exposure to the inner workings and finer processes of developing and launching a new business. Whether you bring your own idea for a business or you decide to work at a team member on someone else's business concept, BYOBiz offers invaluable experience that can pay career dividends many times over. With the power of BYOBiz director Robert Bloch, your own Board of Directors, and the talents of your fellow Champlain students behind you, the sky is the limit!
