Fieldwork in Burlington: ITS Division
With an ever growing aspect of local businesses being dedicated to technology and sciences, it comes to no surprise that there are a large number of internship and employment opportunities for the students of Champlain's Information Technology and Sciences Division.
A large factor contributing to the success of the ITS majors comes from the close connection to local talent that Burlington businesses have to offer. "The Champlain community within the ITS division including the dean, faculty and career services, collaborate with local tech employers to build strong relationships to establish a tradition of opportunities for students," explains Mark Zammuto, Information Technology & Science Division Career Advisor.
Companies around Burlington regularly regard Champlain College as a prime source for qualified talent. Burlington is home to many of the top-ranking and well known tech companies such as: Logic Supply, MyWebGrocer, Dealer.com, GE Healthcare, IBM, RingMaster Software and Union Street Media.
The ITS Division at Champlain College does not require all majors to complete and internship, but many students understand the value of real-time, hands-on experience. "Some programs require an internship and some don't because students already do so many hands- on projects within their courses. In general, when students get an internship with companies in Burlington, they are usually offered a position once they graduate because companies know the quality of the programs and students we have," explains Dr. Ali Rafieymehr, ITS Division Dean.
