Human Resources Management Specialization
Focused area of study for Business Majors
Why Choose to Specialize in Human Resources Management?
Learn the best practices of finding and keeping an organization's most important assets: its employees. Every organization, no matter its size or purpose, must understand and respond to the needs of its employees. In turn, many employers are asking their workers to participate actively in HR decisions on job design, recruiting, hiring, training, performance evaluation and compensation.
Through the HRM specialization, you will gain an understanding of the role of "human capital" and how modern HR policies and practices can help build a sustainable organization. The U.S. Department of Labor predicts job growth in the HR field will be "much faster than the average" between now and 2018. Career paths include HR management and specialist positions in areas such as recruiting, training, benefits administration, labor relations and employee counseling. If you choose this specialization, your four years at Champlain will include business courses, human resources and organizational communication courses and the College's Core curriculum.
Courses in this specialization currently include:
- MGT 280 - Organization Development
- MGT 330 - Human Resource Management I
- MGT 331 - Human Resource Management II
- LAW 370 - Employment Law
- COM 340 - Organizational Communication
OR COM 350 - Conflict Management
