Our Upside-Down Curriculum allows you to begin taking important classes in your Computer Information Technology degree program in the first semester of your first year.

Why Computer Information Technology?

Countless businesses large and small need IT specialists able to simultaneously develop applications, manage servers, secure networks and manage IT evolution.

Broad cross-disciplinary CIT abilities position you for well-paid career options including Web development, e-commerce, networking and network support, application development and support, programming, as well as technology jobs in other fields. A solid education in Computer Information Technology also gives you the foundation and skills you’ll need to grow into a Chief Information Officer or similar technology leadership position.

Why Computer Information Technology at Champlain?

Computer Information Technology professionals are the ultimate problem solvers when it comes to all things computer-driven, and this major teaches students how to do and manage it all-from developing a website application to managing a database to managing a server, from setting up or identifying problems in complex networks to determining which computer hardware will deliver the best solution to a business or personal need.

The design of this highly customizable major gives students an outstanding technology foundation in areas like relational databases, web technology, networking and security, and programming.

In addition, this major allows students tremendous latitude to select additional technical and nontechnical areas of interest to study. Students may specialize in Web Application Development, Information Systems or other technical areas of interest. Students can also pursue a minor or simply take elective courses in nontechnical areas such as communication or marketing.

Small classes emphasizing hands-on learning are taught by experts on new and emerging technologies who, in addition to teaching, have relevant industry experience and understand what students need to know to succeed.

The curriculum continually evolves to stay on top of the trends and emerging specialization opportunities. As a result, students graduate with a thorough understanding of today's technological infrastructure and tomorrow's challenges.

Because of the extensive hands-on learning that takes place in the first two years of this program, students in this major are highly sought after for paid internships and positions in IT jobs after their second year.

Graduates of this program are likewise sought-after job candidates and enjoy a variety of career options in areas like Web development, e-commerce, networking, application development and support.
