CyberSecurity Specialization
Focused area of study for Computer Networking & Information Security Majors
Why Choose to Specialize in CyberSecurity?
As computers, the Internet, and networks evolve, communication and data systems have become increasingly complex, and operating with speeds and traffic volume that make it difficult to protect both the systems themselves and data they process. The same complexity provides avenues of vulnerability that can range from simple annoyances to liabilities and losses costing millions of dollars in damage or lost revenue. In today’s society, we’ve come to depend on fast and reliable Internet usage. We must also be sure that our interactions are secure, and that information systems are able to respond to threats and attacks.
CyberSecurity scenarios offer complex technical problems, often involving multiple computers, operating systems, databases and network services operating between businesses and government agencies. The situations may involve multiple countries and cultures, and involve complex legal and policy issues. People with this background and these skills are in high demand and can help contribute to the security of our Internet and computer experiences.
The Computer Networking & Information Security major provides a foundation for understanding how computers and networks communicate securely. The CyberSecurity specialization builds on that foundation with courses designed to help students understand the nature and impact of cyber threats, as well as how to prevent them. Students will gain a background to deal with situations involving sensitive data for individual users, corporate users and government agencies.
