International Business Major

Our Upside-Down Curriculum allows you to start taking classes in your International Business degree program beginning in your first semester.

Why International Business?

Doing business in a global economy requires more than traveling around the world. It means learning about the cultural, political and technological forces that shape the business world. With a degree in International Business, you'll be poised to attain key international positions with  organizations like the U.S. State Department, multinational firms and humanitarian organizations.

Why International Business at Champlain?

Earning your B.S. in International Business from Champlain College immerses you in a curriculum that emphasizes sound business fundamentals, cultural literacy, foreign study and a comprehensive approach to project-based learning with an expert faculty.

With Champlain’s hands-on approach to teaching, you’ll connect with trade diplomats, ambassadors and executives through alliances with federal, state and local business and trade organizations, such as the Vermont Global Trade Partnership (VGTP), which provides students with unique international trade opportunities and behind-the-scenes perspectives. You’ll also meet many members of trade delegations through work with the Vermont Council on World Affairs.

In a true teamwork setting, you’ll collaborate on real-life projects helping multinational companies identify international target markets, develop import/export strategies, and build short- and long-term business plans for international growth.

You’ll also participate in our award-winning Global Modules, an online initiative that links you with students from other countries in real time to tackle challenging issues of near-universal concern.

You might also choose to tailor your International Business degree program with a specialization in Development (with a focus on the sociopolitical and cultural implications of international business); Leadership (with a focus on communication and organizational behavior); or Logistics (with a focus on production, distribution and operations).

Your internship experience will be truly international as you travel to another country and intern with a U.S.-based company that has international operations. You can also combine an internship with a semester of studying abroad at our campus in Dublin, Ireland; our campus in Montreal, Canada; or anywhere else in the world through our third-party study-abroad partners.

You’ll graduate with a resume that will help you land a key international position with an organization such as the U.S. State Department or a multinational firm or humanitarian group. Alternatively, you will graduate knowing you have a strong foundation on which to continue building your international business knowledge in a graduate program.

A full 88 percent of the graduates of this program from the class of 2010 are already working in positions in international business.

  • Tailor your interests toward a corporate, nonprofit or government career.
