Industrial/Organizational Psychology Specialization

Focused area of study for Psychology Majors

Why Choose to Specialize in Industrial/Organizational Psychology?

The industrial/organizational specialization provides students with a unique perspective on human behavior in the workplace. Industrial/organizational psychology is concerned with employee relations, productivity and morale; communication within the workplace; and recruiting, retaining and training employees.

Students will learn about the relationship between psychology and business through coursework in human resources management, leadership and project management. Students may opt to take a laboratory course in the biology of nutrition and fitness, which will further prepare students to develop wellness initiatives in the workplace after graduation. As with any specialization area, completion of an Internship in a relevant work setting provides valuable mentoring experiences with experts in the student's chosen field.

Immediately after graduation, students specializing in industrial/organizational psychology can obtain jobs in human resources management, recruiting, compensation and benefits, and training and development. Further education in graduate school will enable students to secure desirable positions in organizational management, industrial-organizational psychology and more senior positions within human resources.
