Senior Art Show
| BY CRAIG WINSLOW
I was asked to design this poster to promote the senior show for the Electronic Game Development division. My initial focus was to create a poster that strayed from a stereotypical video game feel, in an effort to give video games more credit as an art form. Dan Peavey, a Champlain colleague of mine, expressed interest in being involved and the project turned into an enjoyable collaboration. After conceptualizing a pre-DaDa era style poster, I thought it would be interesting for Peavey to create illustrations of each of the eight final game projects to be composed on one canvas, cut out by strong white type. I also designed a custom typeface for the project that I named Moduli which I’m currently compiling before I distribute it for free to the public.
I had some fantastic classes at Champlain, and truly got a lot out of how much work I put into each and every project. The recently re-established AIGA Champlain chapter has been a fantastic resource for studio tours, design contests, and generally finding out about design firms. Following graduation, I started a summer internship downtown at JDK Design working on the new line of Burton Snowboards. I have also recently been working on some photo retouching out of NYC, and I’ve been talking with a few of my fellow alumni about ideas for a start-up. In my mind, a full plate is a good plate, and I’m always hungry for more.
