My name is Dan Peavey, I am a graduate of Champlain College with a Bachelors of Science in Electronic Game Development: Art and Animation, and I am currently pursuing independent game development ventures as I search for greater challenges in the video game industry. I focus primarily in 3D game art as a generalist, but enjoy concept art and direction as another major study. My time at Champlain has shown exactly how hard I can drive forward with any project, and the intimate atmosphere of collaboration fostered the best of constructive criticism, helping myself and others to grow immensely as artists and team players. Without a doubt, I have grown immensely as an artist and a person during the past four years here, and I cannot wait to see what kind of amazing work the future classes will come up with!

This piece is an exercise done for the experimental Painting for Game Design course (junior year, fall of 2008), helmed by the great Bob Selby. The exact assignment was on dynamic perspective - simply draw some kind of airborne vehicle and illustrate your understanding of these concepts. I had a little extra time that week (or more accurately, shifted around more time) to work on it more. This piece incorporates several techniques that I was experimenting with, including the use of photo sources as texture, dynamic perspective in composition, atmospheric perspective's effect on depth, contrasting of scale and color, brush creation techniques in Adobe Photoshop, and rapid concept design through abstract silhouetting. This concept painting is intended to deliver a mood to the viewer. At the time I was heavily influenced by the work of David "Vyle" Levy at Steambot Studios, and the amazing Christian Lorenz Scheurer, as I incorporated elements of their design process into my own for the sake of learning and experimentation.
