A Taste of Vermont
| BY MARISSA BENTIVOGLIO
My time at Champlain was spent singing with the Music Makers, getting involved in international issues with STAND, studying abroad in Dublin, mentoring first-year students as part of LEAD and giving tours to prospective students working for the admission office during all four years as a Student Ambassador. I’m hoping to get involved in PR and HR with a small company when I move to California in the fall, as well as volunteer for the Society of Human Resource Management’s (SHRM) Young Professional group.
I had the privilege of being the spring 2010 intern at Lake Champlain Chocolates located on Pine Street in Burlington. I worked with both the Human Resource Manager and the Marketing department. As part of my internship, I helped to organize a week-long internal campaign to raise money for the United Way of Chittenden County. I worked on the messaging for this campaign, and I wanted to visualize the money raised throughout the years by employees. The campaign, A Taste of Vermont, was based on the Local Secret events held by the organization’s retail stores that feature their local providers in Vermont. Through the efforts we were able to raise $4,500. I also made recommendations on how to optimize their Facebook page and Twitter account through engaging followers and strategically using hashtags, and wrote posts for their blog, the Chocolate Wrap.
