For more information about Diversity & Inclusion
The Champlain Rainbow Alliance is composed of staff and faculty who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer. We provide a supportive space to discuss issues relevant to Champlain's LGBTQ community, plan educational initiatives and host social activities. Through collaboration with Champlain College's administration, academic divisions and the student LGBTQ group INCLUDE, the alliance works to broaden the culture of diversity, inclusion and acceptance at Champlain College. The group meets monthly and one meeting a quarter is open to allies and friends. If you are interested in joining the group please contact Roland Palmer.
In the aftermath of the New York Times’ article on the leaked memo from the Trump Administration that could potentially revoke legal protections for trans, gender nonconforming, and intersex people under Title IX, we want to take a moment to reaffirm our commitment to our trans and gender nonconforming students, faculty, and staff who are integral to, and vital members of, our community at Champlain College. As such, we recognize that this news affects our entire Champlain community, albeit in different ways, and that our community is strongest when we stand together. As members of the Rainbow Alliance, we remain committed to remaining a safe, inclusive campus that welcomes and celebrates the range of gender identity and expression on our campus.
For cisgender allies of our trans and gender nonconforming peers at Champlain, we encourage you to check in with your friends and colleagues at this time. In addition to offering emotional support, here are some tangible ways you can help.
For trans and gender nonconforming members of our community, please know there are a range of resources available, including affinity spaces as well support services. Include is an affinity space for students on campus. Rainbow Alliance an affinity space for college employees. The Rainbow Alliance is comprised of staff, faculty, and administrators who identify on the LGBTQ+ spectrum.
Trans Rights are Human Rights.
