Champlain College Diversity Council

Champlain College is committed to working strategically to create an inclusive community where all stakeholders feel cared for and a sense of belonging.

The Diversity Council is chaired by the Vice President of Student Affairs and Institutional Diversity & Inclusion, who serves in an advisory capacity to the College President.

The Council's primary role is to help shape and guide deliberate institutional strategy and planning, helping the institution provide comprehensive leadership and investments in diversity and inclusion throughout the College.

Fall 2017 Presidential Charge for Champlain College Diversity Council

  • Serve as consultant and thinking partner to Vice President of Student Affairs and Institutional Diversity & Inclusion as they continue to assess D&I progress.
  • Work together to establish and document a functioning structure for the Diversity Council.
  • Review current Diversity Strategic Plan and last year's Diversity & Inclusion Scorecard report in order to develop and implement a process for reviewing Champlain's Diversity Statement involving members of the College community.
  • Support the development of a Diversity & Inclusion assessment plan to be led by the Chair working with Institutional Research and other partners.
  • Assist the Chair in gathering input regarding potential expansion of the College's implementation framework (i.e. diversity, inclusion, equity, inclusive excellence, etc.).
  • Continue to advise on development of Student, Faculty and Staff learning efforts.
  • Serve as ambassadors and engagement agents as the College continues to develop a long-term strategy for advancing diversity and inclusion issues.
  • Support ongoing efforts to make diversity central to faculty hiring practices.
  • Identify and implement practices to collaborate with Faculty Senate and other key partners to gather information and make institutional recommendations.
  • Assist the Vice President of Student Life and Special Advisor to the President for Diversity & Inclusion in conducting an internal Diversity & Inclusion Audit.
  • Recommend immediate priorities for 2018-2019 academic year.

The Diversity Council will convene subcommittees or working groups and, as necessary, delegate consideration of topics to existing committees or groups.

The Diversity Council is chaired by Dr. Angela Batista, Vice President of Student Affairs and Institutional Diversity & Inclusion.
