Niall Colfer graduated with a double honors degree in archaeology and history from University College Dublin in 1995. He then spent over a decade working in archaeological consultancy and as a licensed archaeologist involved in excavations all over Ireland, everything from Viking houses to medieval monasteries. In 2008 he returned to UCD to undertake a masters degree in archaeology. This was followed by a PhD (focused on the millstone quarries of post-medieval Ireland), which has just been submitted.
Along with a love of archaeology and history, Niall is a keen musician and songwriter. Originally from Wexford in the southeast of Ireland, Niall now lives in Dublin with his wife, Lisa, and children, Grace and Jeremy.
