Joanna Beall is a writer and researcher whose genres of choice include fiction, poetry, folk and fairy tales. Her work explores topics such as gender, family-building and infertility. She was born in North Carolina and grew up in the Baltimore area with her family. She lived there for 30 years before moving up north to Vermont. Here, Beall likes to play tennis, cook, hike and feed the growing numbers of woodpeckers, squirrels and migratory birds. She loves an open window on a summer night, with the sound of barred owls calling to one another in the dark.
