Applied Mathematics Curriculum

Always loved math but don’t know what you want to do with it? In the Upside-Down Curriculum, you’ll be able to explore your various interests in your first year, giving you time to find your passion and choose the direction you take your studies. And if you know exactly what you want to study (for instance, Applied Mathematics with a minor in Cybersecurity), you’ll be able to jump right into career-relevant classes from day one.

We’ve created a four-pronged approach to learning applied math:

Math Foundation: Learn advanced math and math theory. The courses in our Math Foundation provide you with the skills and knowledge you'll be building upon during your studies and career.

Math Electives: With your math elective credits, you’ll get to choose which areas of math to focus on. For instance, you may want to continue exploring statistics or more discrete math.

Applied Electives: These courses are math-related and provide opportunities for you to practice using math to overcome obstacles, solve problems, and answer questions. You'll have a wide range of courses to choose from, including classes in art, business, computer science, and data science. You can work with your advisor to choose approved courses that are relevant to your interests and goals.

General Electives: Study a variety of topics or declare a minor to complement your Applied Mathematics major. You’ll have enough general elective credits to follow your interests wherever they take you!
