Why study Broadcast Media Production at Champlain College?

Champlain's Bachelor of Science program in Broadcast Media Production gives students a rich background in producing and directing studio and field-based productions. Our program offers a wide array of video, audio, and writing courses—all in a small classroom environment.

Students take on client-based projects beginning in their sophomore year and will complete their studies with a year-long documentary project during their senior year. You'll have opportunities to showcase your work on Vermont television channels and radio stations.

Through a mix of classroom learning and hands-on production experience, you will:

  • study essential media techniques and broadcast management skills that will make you a valuable asset to businesses and organizations;
  • learn how to develop and produce news and news features, public service announcements, documentaries, and reality programming (including sports and entertainment);
  • train with a mobile studio production unit that streams live to the web;
  • learn by doing in our digital editing suites, campus radio station, computer labs, and sound studio; and
  • become proficient with nonlinear video editing, lighting, and state-of-the-art cameras.

This program prepares students for client-based production and traditional broadcasting, fusing editorial and technical knowledge with in-class and pre-professional experiences.

Competitions and Exhibitions

Every year, Broadcast Media Production majors have the opportunity to gain valuable experience participating in national and regional competitions. Our students often win prestigious awards and recognition from the New England chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (the Emmy's!). Students in this major regularly see their work aired on the Made Here program with Vermont PBS and Burlington's The Media Factory.
