Literature Specialization

The optional Literature specialization in the Early Childhood/Elementary Teacher Education program will give you depth of knowledge in a specific discipline of study.

The important skills you develop through the Literature specialization will make you more marketable in various school settings when you begin your job search.

  • Become well-versed in significant historical works of literature.
  • Learn how to provide students with cultural context about the world in which a book is set.
  • Gain literary skills such as critical reading, forming interpretations, and creating arguments.
  • Learn how to support students who wish to create works of literature.
  • Use the lens of a discipline to strengthen interdisciplinary thinking through literature.
