A semester-long, inspiring journey into academic college life, holistic well-being, and finding meaning through virtual internship and service experiences.
The Virtual Gap Program at Champlain College is an innovative and exploratory experience for high school graduates who are looking for a transformative, cohort-based learning adventure before they officially start college.
There’s never been a year like this.
This is admittedly a weird time. We’re all a little stuck, and are perhaps feeling disconnected from each other and our future. But we don’t have to stay that way. This moment in history has provided a “pause” for us all to consider what’s important to us, what provides meaning, what inspires us, and what good we can bring to each other and the world.
At a time when a traditional gap year isn't possible, we created the Virtual Gap Program to help students use this time to find their way forward into a rich and meaningful life.
During the program you’ll make the key connections—intellectual, interpersonal, and professional—that will provide a solid foundation for your future success. With expert mentoring and hands-on learning, you will emerge from your gap semester with direction, experience, purpose, and a stronger sense of self.
Your Three Areas of Growth
ACADEMIC DISCOVERY: Experience the difference of college-level academic thinking. Expose yourself to big ideas and learn to think in bold new ways. Quick hit, engaging interactive learning sessions will open up your world. Our leading experts get real on Big Idea topics like Having Impact in the World, Machine Learning, Design Thinking, Relationships and Love, Identity (Gender, Race, Class, etc), and many more. Through guided discussions and self-reflection, you’ll develop informed perspectives on issues that matter.
HOLISTIC WELL-BEING: Discover how to connect with yourself on a deeper level and learn the habits that lead to a happy, fulfilled life. Over the 15 weeks, you’ll explore the science of wellness and the art of self-care. Guided by Kimberly Quinn, Ph.D—Champlain’s Well-being and Success Coach—our wellness module will teach you how to handle stress and anxiety using techniques based in proven scholarly research so you can flourish and thrive in all aspects of your life.
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES: Align your interests and strengths with potential career paths, get practical, hands-on experience, and start developing your professional profile. Guided by mentors from the Career Collaborative and Champlain Centers of Experience, you’ll take on an internship, service learning project, or volunteer experience. You’ll collaborate with fellow students and industry insiders on work you will be proud to call out on your resume and LinkedIn profile. (We’ll help you with those, too!)
