Applying for Financial Aid

Champlain College encourages all students to apply for financial aid. Applying for aid is the only way to know if you will be eligible for grants, federal work-study, loans, and scholarships, and it will not affect your chances of being admitted to the College.

Financial Aid Application Process at Champlain College

The financial aid application process is separate from the admissions application. Do not wait for your admissions acceptance before applying for financial aid.

All admitted students who complete the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be considered for Champlain's need-based awards and merit scholarships. If you are applying for Early Decision, we will email you our Champlain Student Aid Estimator Form to be considered for need-based aid. If you do not receive an email from us, please email us at admissions@champlain.edu and we will send you the link.

***You MUST complete a FAFSA for EVERY YEAR you seek financial aid ***

Students seeking need-based funding from Champlain should submit the FAFSA by the priority filing date found below. Although the FAFSA is accepted throughout the year, our need-based scholarships are awarded first to students who meet the FAFSA priority filing date and then on a rolling basis, if funds are available.

*Due to delays in receiving student FAFSA information from the Department of Education, we are extending the 2024-2025 FAFSA deadline to assist families.

  • Champlain College has extended the 2024-2025 FAFSA filing date for Regular Decision students to March 1, 2024.
  • The Department of Education will not be releasing student FAFSA information to Champlain College until mid-March, or later. As a result, we are unable to provide students with financial aid offers that include federal financial aid.
  • Students applying Early Decision will receive their admissions decision with an estimated federal aid offer, based on completion of the Champlain Student Aid Estimator form.
  • Students applying Regular Decision will receive their admissions decision with Champlain Merit aid only.
  • We encourage Early Decision and Regular Decision students to submit their 2024-2025 FAFSA and not wait.
  • Once FAFSA information is released by the Department of Education, we will provide all students, who have completed the FAFSA, with a revised financial aid package, which could include additional scholarships, grants, Federal Work-Study, and federal loans.
  • We anticipate sending students revised financial aid packages by April 2. This expectation is based on the Department of Education releasing FAFSA information to us in mid-March.

What's up with the FAFSA?

The Federal government is currently revising how it is doing the FAFSA. As a result, the new form will be available in December 2023, not October as in previous years.
