What to bring to your new home

Welcome home! All rooms will have a bed, desk, chair, dresser, and closet space. The rest is up to your imagination and style. Here are a few guidelines for what to bring (and what to leave behind) to get you started. 

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Stackable crates (load them to travel with, stack them for storage)
  • Alarm clock
  • Desk lamp and light bulbs
  • Power strip with internal safety circuit breaker
  • Fan (window or tabletop)
  • Stamps and address book
  • Small wastebasket
  • Extra-long twin bed sheets (36" x 80") and pillowcases
  • Blankets, comforter, quilt, pillow, towels, and washcloths
  • Shower caddy to carry toiletries to the bathroom
  • Shower sandals or slippers to wear while walking from the shower to your room
  • Laundry basket/bag, detergent, and dryer sheets
  • Coat hangers
  • Cold-weather clothes and boots
  • Bowl, plate, cup, silverware, dish soap, sponges, and dish towels for late-night snacks
  • Wall adhesive to hang posters (if using tape, please use painter’s tape so that walls are not damaged)

THINGS YOU MIGHT WANT TO BRING

  • Bicycle and bike lock
  • First aid kit
  • Iron or steamer (that auto shuts off) and small ironing board
  • Mini fridge
  • PC or laptop (not required by Champlain, but some students prefer to have their own)
  • Scissors and sewing kit
  • Stereo, TV, DVD player
  • Vacuum cleaner
