English Language Coaching

COVID-19 Update: Thinking of you at this time!

In light of the College's recent decision to extend spring break and continue the semester remotely, the physical offices and labs in the SMART Space will be closed until further notice. We will, however, be offering virtual coaching and tutoring through Smarthinking & Google Hangouts Meet.

  • Schedule an appointment for tutoring and coaching through TutorTrac or by emailing smartspace@champlain.edu.
  • At the time of your scheduled appointment, check your email.  You will see an invitation to join a Google Hangouts Meet with your tutor or coach.
  • With Google Hangouts Meet, you will be able to access video conferencing to speak directly with a coach or tutor; you will also be able to share information via Google docs.
  • Please prepare your questions in advance for the tutor to make the best use of your "virtual" time together.

Champlain College provides its multilingual learners with English language support to facilitate navigation of classroom content and encourage participation and confidence in classroom discussions and group projects. Through student-centered learning offered online, one-on-one, and in small groups, the English Language (EL) Coach will support success in the four language domains: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

The English Language Coach can help you . . .

  • process, interpret, and evaluate language in a variety of situations.
  • effectively and efficiently articulate ideas in spoken and written language.
  • approach content-based language with greater understanding, providing opportunities for fluency development.
  • ask questions which demonstrate a deeper appreciation for content.
  • collaborate with native English-speaking peers inside and out of the classroom.
  • serve as an advocate for yourself and others, recognizing that learning is a lifelong process for all languages, even birth languages.

Miller Information Commons (Library), 2nd Floor, Room 209

Scheduling Appointments

Students may schedule appointments with the EL Coach online, and are asked to (if possible) share the nature of their work and/or concerns in advance so the Coach will know how to best prepare for the meeting.
