Information for Students

Rehearsal

ALL: There are no rehearsals for either ceremony. However, instructions will be provided before the ceremony.

Commencement Ceremony Details

Traditional On-Campus Undergraduates: 

The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 11, 2019, in the Robert E. Miller Expo Centre at the Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction, VT. 

Students must arrive by 9:00 am for check-in and line-up in the Blue Ribbon Pavilion, which is attached to the Robert E. Miller Expo Centre (view a map of the Expo Centre here). If you have not checked in by 9:15 am, your name will not be announced during the ceremony.

Champlain College Online/Champlain College Online Undergraduates & Master's Students: 

The ceremony will begin promptly at 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 11, 2019, in the Robert E. Miller Expo Centre at the Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction, VT. 

Students must arrive by 2:15 pm for check-in and line-up in the Blue Ribbon Pavilion, which is attached to the Robert E. Miller Expo Centre (view a map of the Expo Centre here). If you have not checked in by 2:30 pm, your name will not be announced during the ceremony.

ALL: The ceremony itself will take place in Expo South (the center building on the map), student/faculty/platform party line-up will take place in the Blue Ribbon Pavilion, and the gathering following the ceremony will take place in Expo North. 

Tickets & Seating 

ALL: There are NO tickets required for the commencement ceremonies in 2019. Although tickets are not required for guests attending commencement, we do need to monitor expected attendance to ensure seating for everyone. In October, you will be sent information about filling out the Graduation and Commencement Requirements Form. This form will ask you to indicate the number of guests you will be inviting. We will check in with you again during the spring to verify this number.

[Please note: Given the number of seats available, this works out to an average of 8 guests per student.]

Commencement Attire

ALL: Black or dark-color shoes are recommended. We ask you not to wear shorts, flip-flops, or running shoes. Please do not bring items such as purses, bags, or backpacks. There is no secure place to keep them.

Professional Photographs

ALL: A professional photographer from Grad Images will be at the commencement ceremonies. Information and proofs will be mailed to you directly from the company so you can purchase what you like. You are under no obligation to purchase photographs. After the ceremony, you may order online at www.gradimages.com or call 800.424.3686.

Parking and Shuttles

ALL: There is plenty of parking available at the Champlain Valley Expo. We will have golf carts available there to assist with bringing folks from cars to the Expo Centre entrance as needed. More details arevprovided, as well as a map of the Champlain Valley Expo grounds here. We will also be providing all-day shuttle service to and from Champlain College in Burlington and the Expo. Details are here. You are welcome to park on campus and take the shuttle if you prefer.

Applying for Graduation

Champlain College will begin contacting all eligible May 2019 graduates in October with respect to applying for graduations. Students will be asked to:

  • Complete a brief form in WebAdvisor for diploma and commencement program information;
  • Check and update mailing address

Additionally, students will be asked to complete a separate form where they will record attendance information and order regalia.

Who is Eligible to Participate in the Commencement Ceremony?

On-Campus, Traditional Undergraduates

Students who have completed all of their degree requirements will receive their diplomas and have appropriate academic honors announced at the commencement ceremony.In addition, bachelor's degree students who are within eight credits of meeting degree requirements, and associate's degree students who are within four credits, may participate in the ceremony as long as they have at least a 2.0 GPA. These non-graduating participants will receive their diplomas and be awarded academic honors only upon successful completion of their remaining academic requirements. Academic honors will not be given to non-graduating participants because these awards are based on students' cumulative grade point averages at the conclusion of their academic programs.

Champlain College Online/Champlain College Online Undergraduates

Master's Students 

Master's students are eligible to participate as non-graduating participants if they meet the following conditions:

  1. Are within one course of meeting all requirements
  2. Have a CGPA of 3.0 or higher

It should be noted that whereas both graduates and non-graduating participants are listed by name and hometown in the graduation program, non-graduating participants are ineligible to receive their diploma or have their name listed in local media until they have successfully completed their remaining academic requirements.

Transferring Credits

Traditional On-Campus Undergraduates ONLY: If you have recently transferred credits from another institution, please verify with the Advising & Registration staff that we have those credits on record. To verify, please call 802.860.2777 or email registrar@champlain.edu.

Graduation Fair

Traditional On-Campus Undergraduates ONLY: The Graduation Fair will take place on Thursday, April 18, 2019 from 12pm - 5pm in the Argosy Gym at Champlain College. This fair gives you the opportunity to sign up for Senior Week activities, take part in the Senior Class Gift, complete your Career Collaborative Exit Survey, and pick up your cap and gown!

Accessibility Accomodations

ALL: If any guests have special accommodations (i.e. hearing impairment), please let us know at graduation@champlain.edu so that we can make the proper arrangements in advance.

Residence Hall Move-Out Dates

Traditional On-Campus Undergraduates ONLY: All graduating students must move out of residence halls by noon on Sunday, May 12, 2019 (the day after graduation).

Post-Ceremony Gatherings

ALL: Folloring each commencement ceremony, we will have a gathering for graduates, guests, faculty, and the platform party in Expo North at the Champlain Valley Expo. We will provide celebratory cupcakes and beverages at this gathering, during which we will also have music and fun photo opportunities available.
