Contact the Office of Community Standards
Most documented violations of College policy will result in a meeting with a hearing officer. The most effective strategy we have in managing conduct issues is one-on-one contact with students. Hearing officers are caring, student centered individuals who possess the skills to interact with students and families. Student life professionals and faculty act as hearing officers. Keep in mind, cases are assigned to maximize student connections to faculty and staff. Research indicates that students at risk have the best chance of success if relationships can be built with faculty and staff. A policy violation is an opportunity to initiate a conversation and thus, a relationship is formed.
In these meetings, an incident report will be shared, and students will have a chance to tell their story. Following the conversation, the hearing officer will provide the student with written notification of the sanction. Students are made aware of the appeal process and have the right to appeal any sanction.
