More than 90% of our students benefit from the Support-a-Student Scholarship. This vital grant program helps close the gap for students who have exhausted all other financial resources, including federal and state education loans, family contributions and jobs. It is often the deciding factor that determines whether a student will be able to attend Champlain College. During the 2016-2017 academic year, $23.2 million was invested in 2,060 students.

The Single Parent Scholarship helps low-income single parents gain a post-secondary education in which they acquire marketable skills that will ultimately allow them to become more financially independent. In addition to tuition scholarships, the program provides on-site advocacy and counseling to students trying to balance child-rearing, a full academic curriculum and financial challenges far beyond traditional students. In 2016, 41 Single Parent Scholars received $545,000 in scholarship assistance.

This need-based scholarship program gives Vermonters broader access to higher education. The Vermont First Generation scholarship provides financial assistance to qualified first-generation college students, those whose parents did not attend college. In 2016, 67 students received $1.9 million in scholarship support.

The New American Scholarship is a need-based scholarship for Vermont’s refugee or asylum students. This scholarship not only makes it possible for refugee and asylum students in Vermont to pursue an education in a safe and supportive context, it also enriches the classrooms and campus for all of us. In 2016, 18 New American students received $363,000 in scholarship assistance.

Champlain College provides a significant tuition waiver for veterans who qualify for the Yellow Ribbon Program provision of the Post-9/11 GI Bill. This education benefit provides eligible veterans with financial assistance up to the total cost of tuition and fees, above and beyond the funds provided by the GI Bill. In 2016, 27 students received $170,000 in scholarship assistance.

The Student Emergency Angel Fund is designed as a safety-net for students in need, covering vital expenses that fall outside the scope of tuition but pose a significant obstacle to a student’s academic and professional success. Your gift to the Angel Fund ensures that all students have what they need to grow and thrive in a safe environment.
