Being the largest city in the state, Burlington is home to some of Vermont's biggest attractions. From jumping in to Lake Champlain in February to help fundraise for Special Olympics Vermont to discovering the local jazz music, Burlington has an event for everyone. Plan your next trip to Champlain, and seeing your students, around one of these great events.

Here is a list of just some of the annual events Burlington, Vermont has to offer.

First Night FIRST NIGHT: Held on New Year's Eve, the First Night festival of the arts is held worldwide in over 130 cities. Burlington, Vermont was the fifth city to embrace the idea of a substance free evening, and is the largest, single-day arts festival in the state. With over 17 venues hosting live music, comedy, dance and the House of LeMay, it is bound to be a fun night. Don't forget the fireworks! They will be on the waterfront at 6:00pm and midnight.
Winter Festival WINTER FESTIVAL & THE PENGUIN PLUNGE: For over 20 years, the first weekend in February has been dedicated to winter fun. See the Vermont Snow Carving Competition at Waterfront Park, and maybe you'll jump into the lake in the Penguin Plunge, an annual fundraiser for Special Olympics Vermont. Church Street Marketplace will also be filled with activities. Stroll under the Winter Lights and see what vendors are selling at the annual Winter Bazaar. BTV Marathon BURLINGTON CITY MARATHON: "26 years and still running!" KeyBank Vermont City Marathon & Relay has brought runners nationwide to Burlington every May. Get great views of the lake as you run throughout downtown Burlington. Registration opens soon!
Restaurant Week RESTAURANT WEEK: Do you enjoy good and local food? Each year Seven Days and Vermont Federal Credit Union sponsor Vermont Restaurant Week. With over 100 restaurants participating across the State and special menus for the event, it'll be hard to pick just one place to dine out!
Discover Jazz Festival BURLINGTON DISCOVER JAZZ FESTIVAL: Sit outside on Church Street at one of the many restaurants and listen to the sounds of local jazz. Stages and venues are set up all around downtown, from intimate venue performances to street parties and cruises along the lake. Attend a Meet-the-artist session and see some of the greats in jazz music. Experience the different forms of jazz music during this 10 day event at the end of May.
Wine & Food Festival BURLINGTON WINE & FOOD FESTIVAL: Taste your way through Vermont's local wine and food movement at the annual Burlington Wine & Food Festival. Check out the 5th Annual Burlington Wine & Food Festival on June 21.
Brewfest BURLINGTON BREWERS FESTIVAL: With over 29 breweries in the state, Vermont has the most breweries per capita than any other state, and they will all be available in July at this year's event. Experience what the Executive Director of the Vermont Brewers Association called "the Disneyland of Beer" at this annual Artisan Craft Beer Festival. Tickets sell out in a matter of days so make sure you get them early. Tickets go on sale May 15.
Burton Summer Sale

BURTON ANNUAL SALE: "It's every shredder's dream," posted Burton for last year's annual event. For the last 20 years, Burton has been hosting an annual summer sale in August with boards, boots, bindings, and so much more at bargain basement prices. Get last season's hottest styles for up to 70% off!

Pride VT

PRIDE FESTIVAL: Come celebrate Vermont's LGBTQ community of all ages in September. This annual event is meant to raise awareness of the progress Vermont's LGBTQ community has made toward equality and the challenges that are still present. Walk down Church Street and end at Battery Park in the Pride Parade. Check out the vendors at the festival and try some of Vermont's local products, from wine to ice cream. Children can participate in games, dancing, and youth activities.

South End Art Hop

SOUTH END ART HOP: This three-day event occurs annually following the Labor Day holiday. Walk around Burlington's South End and explore the studios and local businesses that become galleries for this weekend event. With over 500 participating artists, you can see outdoor sculptures, the STRUT Fashion Show, and a variety of visual art. Check out Champlain's role in the Art Hop as a temporary gallery with faculty and student exhibitions.

Burlington Book Festival

BURLINGTON BOOK FESTIVAL: Celebrate the written word at the 10th Annual Burlington Book Festival in September. Attend readings, workshops, panel discussion and family activities. All events are free and Champlain faculty and students are often involved in the events.

Vermont International Film Festival

VERMONT INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL: Watch feature-length films  and shorts from all over the world at the Vermont International Film Festival. Having started in 1985, the Vermont International Film Festival has been bringing independent films to the area for almost 30 years. This 10 day festival is held in October with many free screenings. Check out the shows and some even have after parties!
