Educational Themes

Empowerment & Leadership Development

The Women's and Gender Center aims to empower students whose gender identities and sexual orientations are traditionally marginalized in our culture. We partner with the Champlain Women's Empowerment Initiative, which works to cultivate confidence and courage by fostering the achievements of women. In addition, we host and collaborate on events that help students succeed academically, personally and professionally, targeting populations who would benefit the most from this type of support.

Signature Programs:

Gender Identity & Sexual Orientation

The Women's and Gender Center values and supports people of all gender identities and sexual orientations. We work to educate the community about topics such as gender pronouns, sexual orientation and intersectionality. The Center itself serves as an inclusive and comfortable space for the LGBTQ+ population at Champlain, acting as a common area for discussion and support. INCLUDE, a student-led LGBTQ+ group, meets biweekly in the Center after regular office hours.

Signature Programs:

  • National Coming Out Day
  • Lavender Graduation
  • Coming Out Monologues
  • SafeSpace Training

Sexual Violence Prevention

The Women's and Gender Center works in conjunction with See, Say, Do to educate the community about bystander intervention, prevention of sexual violence and resources for survivors. Our goal is to provide progressive and appropriate educational programming that helps students prevent sexual violence and understand the resources they have for reporting an incident and/or accessing support.

  • Sexual Violence Awareness Month
  • How to Help a Friend (who has experienced sexual violence)
  • Shedding Light on Sexual Violence
