Free & Open Tech
The Free and Open Tech Club provides discovery opportunities for students to learn about Free "Libre" and Open Software and Hardware.
We also learn about the philosophy and application of Free Software and Hardware to life. Free Software and Hardware require that the source code be made available so that others may learn from, make changes, and share changes with others under the same licensing terms as chosen by the original authors. These features greatly accelerate learning and the generation of knowledge among other benefits to humanity. Libre hardware and software exist to preserve user freedoms.
We also work on yearly projects such as building a hexcopter surveillance drone and preparing and donating Debian GNU/Linux laptops to the Malayaka House in Uganda.
We generally agree that technology should respect the rights of users and not enslave users.
We meet Wednesdays from 6:00–8:00 PM in the MakerLab.
