The library collects materials that are directly related to the courses and anticipated student research projects. Emphasis is placed on acquiring materials that represent diverse viewpoints to broaden knowledge beyond personal biases and the echo chambers of major media. By providing a broad range of viewpoints on subjects the students have the opportunity to learn about others, and develop the skills to discuss difficult topics civilly with individuals who do not mirror their beliefs. As the world we live in becomes more politically divided and less tolerable to those who think differently, this will become ever more important.

Biography

Beth joined Champlain College with experience as a law librarian at Syracuse University College of Law, skill as a business librarian at Saint Michael’s College, and practice creating unique programs and events to encourage students to engage with the library. As Outreach & Engagement Librarian, Beth works collaboratively across campus to design, implement, and promote meaningful and impactful library programming and activities for both on-campus and online populations. She also delivers in-class information literacy sessions and provides research and reference support to the Champlain community. Beth has served as the Vice-President and President of the College & Special Libraries Section of the Vermont Library Association. She has also served on the Vermont Library Conference planning committee.

Biography

Nick Faulk leads Champlain College Library’s in-person and online instructional programs. These initiatives develop students’ skills in information literacy and digital scholarship methods through in-class sessions and online learning objects. He is particularly interested in helping faculty and students explore techniques for integrating computer programming and geospatial methods with more traditional library research methods. Additional interest areas include motivation and communication in online learning scenarios and the development of digital collections and interactive spaces to teach sociocultural topics. He has been connected with libraries for his entire life as a third-generation library employee.

Biography

Quite a few years ago, Marla was a reference department assistant in high school until she graduated and left home for college. She has always appreciated the wonder, resourcefulness, and peaceful environment of a library, and was thrilled when a part time position opened at MIC. Outside of the library you can find Marla walking down by the lake and talking on the phone with her long distance friends, using her air fryer, and watching niche YouTube videos of international homesteading, gardening, and off-grid living.

What are your hobbies?

Experimental/maximalist fashion, closet organizing, swimming in rivers with flippers and goggles, playing Koosh with my best friend Sarah, talking on the phone, listening to gossip podcasts, painting decorative birdhouses and stretching

Biography

Jes joined the Champlain College Library team in 2017. As Emerging Technologies Librarian, she is responsible for ensuring there is reliable access to the library’s vast collections, both in print and online. Biography

Aubrie was born and raised in Southern Vermont where she developed her love of history from learning about local Revolutionary War battles. She earned her bachelor’s degrees in History and in Archaeology, Technology, and Historical Structures at the University of Rochester in 2016. In 2017, Aubrie moved to Boston to attend graduate school at Simmons University where she graduated in 2021 with dual-masters degrees in History (MA) and in Library and Information Science: Archives Management (MS).

After finishing graduate school, Aubrie moved back to Vermont and into the Burlington area. She began working at Champlain College shortly thereafter in 2022 in the position she currently holds as a circulation coordinator at the Champlain College Library.

Biography

Sarah Camille Wilson manages the Access Services Department at the Champlain College Library. Sarah Camille and her team keep the library open and staffed seven days a week during the academic year, and make sure that students have access to the resources they need. As part of the Library’s reference team, Sarah Camille assists students and employees with research. She also manages the library’s Interlibrary Loan service, obtaining materials students and colleagues need from other libraries. The Access Services Department employs over 20 students each semester, and the library couldn’t run without their help.

Working to increase student belonging, resilience, and success are among the top reasons Sarah Camille loves working at Champlain, as well as collaborating with her incredible colleagues!

What are your hobbies?

Reading, bike adventures, yoga, hiking, gardening, cooking
