Champlain College students, faculty, and staff may borrow library materials with their current Champlain College ID. Books and DVDs may be checked out with the option of renewal; loan policies vary. Some DVDs and reference materials are for library use only. If the library does not have a title or other material, it may be available to borrow from UVM or St. Michael's College. Additionally, books and articles not in the library's collection can be requested through interlibrary loan and will typically arrive within one to two weeks. Along with physical materials, the library offers a wide selection of online resources available both on and off campus through a Champlain username and password.

If you are unable to find a book or journal article in the library's collection, you can request this item to be borrowed from another library through interlibrary loan. Interlibrary loan allows Champlain College Library to borrow materials outside of our collections from other libraries on your behalf. You may request up to 5 items per day and please allow one to two weeks for delivery time. Articles will be emailed to you. Items other than articles must be picked up at the Champlain College Library and cannot be mailed to you.

To ensure the library is providing print and online resources useful to academic courses, it is important that there is a mutually beneficial relationship between the library and faculty. Faculty are encouraged to request books for the library to strengthen its collection. They may also request a librarian facilitated instruction session on how to find and use resources for students before a project or paper. These sessions are typically helpful, engaging, and worth the time, as students get more use from the information outlets they have access to. The library offers a plethora of free and open valuable online resources, including eBooks, database articles, and streaming video which faculty are encouraged to implement in their lessons. To provide students with online links to these articles, you must use enhanced URLs which require a Champlain log-in to access the college-provided materials. Physical materials, including personal copies and existing library materials, may also be put on course reserve in the library for students to check out for up to three hours.

In addition to Champlain College Library's services, faculty members may borrow from other Vermont colleges with their VCAL card. Please note that when you borrow books from VCAL institutions under this agreement, you will be subject to the policies of the lending institution, including overdue fines and replacement fees.

If you are a Champlain College Neighbor, you may borrow library materials with your current Champlain College Neighbor ID. Alumni and guests may also be eligible for borrowing privileges. Those that fit into these categories are responsible for all items charged out to their card. Renewing is possible if books are brought back into the library and the book does not have a hold on it. If you are a neighbor who would like borrowing privileges, or, ff you are an alumnus, guest, or have any other inquiries about library borrowing, please contact Sarah Camille Wilson, Access Services Administrator & Interlibrary Loan, (802) 651-5935.
