Housing & Residential Life
2020-2021 Update: No break housing is offered during 2020/21 academic year due to COVID-19. If you have a hardship or other extenuating circumstance, you may submit your hardship reason so that we can review your situation. More details will be communicated by the middle of Fall Semester.
Champlain offers several options for students who would like to remain in their spaces during school breaks (Fall, Winter, and Spring breaks) when the rest of campus closes.
For sophomores and upperclass students: 194 St. Paul Street, Valcour, Juniper, and Boardman Hall will be staffed during breaks.
For first year students: Summit, Whiting, and 371 Main will remain open.
When you apply for housing, if you anticipate needing to be on campus during break or coming back a day or two early because of flight schedules, it is helpful to choose a building with Break Housing.
Don't live in a building with Break Housing? You may borrow the room of a friend in a building with Break Housing to stay during the break. No other halls on campus will be open or accessible during these times.
In the weeks before each break, any student wishing to stay for break either in their room or their friend's room must request it on THD.
For a student borrowing a room, once you have identified a friend who will allow you to use their room, you will request it on THD. Residential Life will then contact them and anyone else who lives in the room or suite to get their approval. Once approved, you will have access to the room for the break. You will not have access to your own room during the times the College is closed, so you'll want to bring everything you need during that time with you!
